Action movies get a bad rap for being brain candy for mindless babies who only like big car go fast and bomb boom boom, but there’s a lot of important storytelling that can happen during a chase sequence or a shootout. That’s why a lot of non-action movies need action scenes every once in a while. They’re not usually Mission: Impossible caliber, but that just makes it all the more delightfully surprising when they are.

Recently, Redditor 0nemanbukkake was “looking for an otherwise normal drama or even comedy that suddenly turns into an action movie but then goes back to its genre,” they explained to r/Movies. “Even if it’s just a few seconds. Imagine if Children of Men only had that one scene in the car and not that long one at the end.”

They then asked, “What’s a great non-action movie that has a great action sequence?” and their fellow Redditors offered up a variety of comedies and dramas that still got their hearts pumping.
