The 2024 Paris Olympics golf field will resemble a signature event with the number of top-ranked players set to compete at Le Golf National, starting on Thursday. Eight of the top 10 ranked players are part of the 2024 Olympics men’s golf tournament, including the four Americans in Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark. Scheffler is the +300 favorite to take home gold, while the 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist in Schauffele is second on the golf odds board at +525.
The Americans will face stiff competition from the likes of Spain’s Jon Rahm and Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, both of whom are at +700 in the latest 2024 Paris Olympics golf odds. Longshots to consider for 2024 Summer Olympics golf bets include Matthieu Pavon (+4500) of the host nation France and Chinese Taipei’s CT Pan (+10000), who is the only Olympic medalist in the field outside of Schauffele, courtesy of Pan’s bronze win in Tokyo. Before locking in your 2024 Olympics golf picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters — its third Masters in a row — and this year’s PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
Now with the 2024 Summer Olympics golf field locked in, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top 2024 Paris Olympics golf predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Olympics golf tournament: McIlroy (+700), a four-time major winner on the PGA Tour and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and doesn’t even crack the top five. McIlroy is coming off a disappointing British Open where he missed the cut. He shot 11-over-par which is tied for his third-worst score at any major tournament over his 51 career major starts. This was McIlroy’s first missed cut of the 2024 PGA Tour season, but the last time he missed a cut back in 2023, he then struggled again in his ensuing event, placing 47th.
McIlroy was tied for third place after 72 holes at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics golf tournament, pushing him into a seven-golfer playoff for the bronze. However, the struggles he’s had down the stretch at major tournaments were also present at that Olympics as he was eliminated on the third hole of the sudden-death playoff and missed out on a medal. Unfortunately for McIlroy, fading down the stretch of high-profile tournaments has been a recurring theme since his last major win a decade ago, so the model sees better options with 2024 Olympics golf bets. See who else to fade here.
Another surprise: Tommy Fleetwood (Great Britain), a +2000 longshot, makes a strong run at the gold medal. He was in contention to medal at the Tokyo Olympics, sitting in the top 10 entering the final round. However, he faded a bit, finishing 16th, though he still broke par all four rounds. Over the past year, Fleetwood has been one of the most consistent players in the world, remaining in the top 15 of World Rankings since Aug. 2023. He also has strengths which should play well at Le Golf National, which is known for its tight, undulating fairways as Fleetwood ranks in the top 10 in both driving accuracy percentage and total driving.
Fleetwood utilized those strengths in a win on this course back in 2017 at the Open de France. His last start at Le Golf National came at the 2018 Ryder Cup, in which he was one of the stars of the event in leading Team Europe to a victory. Playing in his first Ryder Cup, Fleetwood went 4-1 overall, winning both of his better ball matches and both of his foursome matches. Additionally, he has three top 10s over his last six major starts, so he’s displayed the ability to contend with the strongest of fields, making him a sleeper pick with 2024 Olympics men’s golf bets.
