BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – People from all over Vermont and the Jewish community spent their Sunday eating lot’s of food. The 3rd Annual Jewish Food Festival was filling bellies in Burlington.
Over five hundred people usually attend the event as many Jewish religious organizations cook food for those who want to try. There were over a dozen dishes like matzo ball soup, noodle kugel, and the classic potato knish. Members from the Jewish community say this event gives everyone a taste of what the Jewish culture feels like.
“It is important to know that we are not an other. We are a part of this community, we have been for one hundred and fifty years. Come around and ask questions, say hello, and see our space. Our art, our food, and our music,” said Phil Bieber of Essex Junction.
“Plain and simple we eat. There is a phrase in Yiddish. ‘Were es and fress People es and animals fress’ – We are fressing today, because there is so much food to be had,” said Naomi Barell of the Ohavi Zedek Synagogue.
Organizers say they hope more people from the community come next year.
