Community members are invited to join a Monday roadside awareness wave to mark World AIDS Day observed every Dec. 1, according to the Department of Public Health and Social Services.

Public Health, along with various community partners, will hold the wave at:

  • 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, by the ITC Intersection in Tamuning.

World AIDS Day serves as a reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma, an opportunity to honor those lost to the disease, and a rallying cry to continue working toward a day when HIV is no longer a public health threat.

This year marks the 38th commemoration of this important day with the theme, “Remember. Honor. Hope.”

Over the past 38 years, significant progress has been made in addressing HIV/AIDS as a result of advancements in medical research, increased access to treatment and prevention, including HIV PrEP, and a broader understanding of the virus, Public Health said in a media release.

“However, we must continue to advocate for equitable access to prevention, treatment and care services. In addition, we must continue to remember the lives lost to HIV/AIDS and remain committed to fighting the disease and providing support to those living with HIV,” Public Health added.
