Nirmala Sitharaman disappoints cinema industry
Girish said, “To be honest, the expectations from the budget for the entertainment industry were at a bare minimum. The film industry has been snubbed by various budgets. Nothing has been announced. There is no relief for the entertainment sector. We have been taking this with a pinch of salt. But as things stand, we have to move on and look ahead.”
No regulation on entertainment tax
“India has one of the highest entertainment tax rates in the world. They should reduce the rates. As far as the convenience fees are concerned, they have imposed a tax on that as well. The online booking platforms will definitely charge fees, as it is their business module. However, if the government regulated that, it would undoubtedly help people leave their homes and book more tickets online,” he added.
