(KOAM) – Children’s Mercy Kansas City and Camber Mental Health will open a new 72,700 square-foot mental wellness campus on December 2, 2024, designed to address the growing need for inpatient mental health care.
The $53 million facility will feature 72 beds—48 for pediatric patients and 24 for adults—and is expected to serve over 3,400 clients annually.
The facility aims to reduce wait times for mental health treatment, which has been a growing concern in the Kansas City area. “This hospital will transform lives and provide lifesaving care for children and adults in crisis,” said Kimberly O’Connor-Soule, President of Children’s Mercy + Camber Mental Health.
The design includes therapeutic spaces, courtyards, and recreational therapies to support healing. It will treat conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma with a focus on stabilization and long-term care.
The campus is made possible by contributions from the Sunderland Foundation, Fore the Kids Foundation, and the State of Kansas. Governor Laura Kelly expressed support for the project, noting its importance in addressing Kansas’ mental health challenges.
