The former Ireland rugby star announced in May that he had signed with the Chicago Hounds for the 2024 Major League Rugby season.

On Thursday, he and Becca, whose cousin Mark is engaged to RTÉ star Doireann Garrihy, shared a pre-departure photo taken at home before they made their way to the airport.

The couple, who wed last summer after four years together, stood amongst a sea of suitcases and grinned for the camera with their dog Kali in tow.

They captioned the joint post: “Let the adventure begin… Chicago and a snowstorm with highs of -16 await!”

Some famous faces flocked to the comments section to wish the newlyweds luck on their travels, including Brian O’Driscoll, who teased his former teammate by writing: “Good luck dreamboat”.

Influencer Niamh Cullen said: “Best of luck on this adventure, safe travels guys! Sending love”.

Doireann Garrihy added: “Best of luck guys” while Dave’s brother Rob penned: “So exciting”.

Becca later hopped on her Instagram Stories to share a video of her pup in a pet carrier ahead of their transatlantic flight.

“Fragile after this,” she began, adding broken heart and crying emojis.

“My little baby begins her journey! Keep telling myself it will be worth it for her.”

The yoga teacher also thanked her followers for sending well wishes before sharing a sweet sign she received from her late father, who passed away 10 years ago.

She posted a photo of an Aer Lingus truck that had the words ‘You’ll love Chicago’ written on the side and said: “Saw this the morning we were waiting to board our flight to Portugal for our wedding and thought of it as a little reassuring sign from Dad.

“Love a little sign, especially at times of big change,” she added.

Dave announced his Leinster Rugby departure back in October, writing: “As the dust settles, I want to say thank you to everyone who’s reached out and sent me messages over the last month or so.

“Disappointing way for the squad to finish the season, but it’s still been an incredible journey, one that I’m grateful for. Grateful too for all the class players I’ve had a chance to play with. Thanks to all the Leinster and Irish fans for their support throughout. I look forward to my next chapter.”
