The Duncan High School Vocal Music Department will present its annual Christmas Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 in the DHS Auditorium.
The Dessert Revue will take place in the cafeteria / commons area of the high school. There will be desserts served and performers throughout the even from 6-7 p.m. Admission at the door is $7, which will get you into the Dessert Revue and the Concert in the auditorium. Tickets to the concert only are $2 each and will be sold at the door of the auditorium.
The theme for this year’s show is “Papa Z’s Greatest Hits,” featuring a variety of Christmas songs from the music of Jimmy Zinn, DHS vocal music instructor from 1989-2004.
“We will have many songs that Jimmy (lovingly known as Papa Z) did during his tenure here,” said Vocal Music Department Director Kevin Zinn. “‘Peace, Peace’ will once again be the traditional song that ends the Christmas concert as we celebrate one more time this great man and teacher and remember the-reason-for-the-season.”
Director Kevin Zinn said his Vocal Music Department has also had a very successful group and individual competition this Fall.
They competed at the East Central University Choral Contest on Oct. 31 with the three Varsity choirs all receiving Superior ratings on stage and nine ensembles given Superiors with two obtaining an Excellent rating. Because of their success, they received first place at the contest.
On Oct. 7, the DHS Vocal Music Department had 16 students attend the Southwest Oklahoma All Region Honor Choir in Lawton. These students included Zion Butler, Hannah Holmes, Andy McFarland, Reagan Hicks, Naveah Kamrath, Braidin Stevens, Alivia Cook, Alethea Juyad, Kaity Skinner, Hailey Potts, Lyrica Robinson, Jordan Butler, Lizzie Holmes, Lyndley Morgan, Emmalee Powell and Bella Robison.
With the All State choirs, Hannah Holmes was chosen for the OkMEA All State Senior High All State Mixed Choir and Neveah Kamrath was chosen for the Treble Choir held at Tulsa in January. The All State Honor Choirs are the highest individual awards a vocal music student can receive.
