Former Trail Blazers star Rasheed Wallace picks Damian Lillard for NBA MVP

The nods in the NBA’s MVP discussion continue to come for Damian Lillard.

Former Portland Trail Blazers star Rasheed Wallace made an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” with Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman this week, and delivered his prediction for the MVP race this season. His pick should sit well with fans of his former team.

“It’s tough, but right now, I would have to give it to Dame myself,” Wallace said on the show, “because he’s played in a majority of all the games. We already know Dame is a monster, so I would have to give it to him at this moment.”

This season, Lillard’s name has rightfully been near the top of the MVP conversation alongside Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid, Brooklyn’s James Harden and Los Angeles’ LeBron James. More than any of those stars mentioned, Lillard has had to carry his team the most throughout the season after the early injuries to CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic.

In 52 games, Lillard is averaging 28.7 points and 7.7 assists for the No. 6 seed Blazers (31-23).

In addition to his MVP prediction, Wallace went on to talk about other topics on the show, including how he would perform in today’s modern NBA and the NBA Finals race.
