RHINELANDER, Wis. – Over 7,000 checks are being sent to people who were affected by Rhinelander Auto’s “junk fees” and “discriminatory practices.”
The Federal Trade Commission began sending checks recently after suing Rhinelander Auto.
Rhinelander Auto added hidden fees to their car prices that customers didn’t want — such as gap insurance and service plans — through paperwork or by telling customers that they were required, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit also says the dealerships discriminated against Native Americans by charging them more for financing.
Dealerships involved in the settlement included Rhinelander GM Auto Center, Rhinelander Cadillac, Rhinelander Toyota and OK Used Cars of Rhinelander.
People who get a check should cash it within 90 days.
