SHINNSTON, W.Va (WDTV) – A Harrison County couple was arrested after pretending to be members of a local volunteer fire department and obtaining more than $1,500 worth of goods from two auto shops.
Megan Swiger and Paul Swiger, Jr., are each charged with one count of obtaining money, property and services by false pretenses, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
On seven separate incidents in August and September, the couple went to Advance Auto Parts in Shinnston and made several purchases while falsely representing themselves as current members of the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department, deputies said.
The pair had the store place the bills in the fire department‘s open invoice account, which ended up totaling $1,157. Later, they also went to Napa Auto Parts and made a purchase for $407.99 on the fire department’s open invoice account, as well, deputies said.
The total value of all of the items was $1,564.99, deputies said.
On Monday, Megan and Paul both entered not guilty pleas, posted a bond of $5,000 each and were released from jail.
