Harry Potter TV Series Updates
The movies being re-released in theaters is timely as the new HBO Harry Potter television series recently received an exciting update. Warner Bros. confirmed the Harry Potter TV reboot in 2023, but things were moving along slowly until recently. While no official cast has been announced, The Wrap reported that the Harry Potter series will start filming in the summer of 2025.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod announced the update at a recent Max showcase in London. The team also confirmed the new series will be filmed in Leavesden, which is where the eight Harry Potter movies were produced.
Gardiner and Mylod said about 32,000 child actors applied for the lead roles in the series and that they have gone through about 5,000 audition tapes a day. The team added that the new show will be true to the ages from the book. For instance, Professor Snape will be in his 30s, and Lily and James Potter will also be younger.

Series Runtime Revealed
“We have eight hours to tell the first book, so we can dig into the real depths and crevices and how the language of magic can be evolved,” Gardiner confirmed about the runtime of Season 1. Gardiner also said the team wants to honor the original movies. “We’re both massively fond of the movies, they’re amazing, what an amazing feat of creative pursuits. We get a bigger sandpit to play in,” Gardiner said.
The Harry Potter TV series will premiere on HBO in 2026.
