“Just Another Day In Showbiz” — Lainey Wilson Says She Won’t Be Surprised If She Splits Her Pants Onstage Again

The show must go on.

Last week during the Faster Horses music festival, Lainey Wilson had a major wardrobe malfunction onstage… she went full Spongebob and ripped her pants. It’s not all that surprising, because she’s an energy machine when she performs, running around on stage, engaging with her fans, dancing to her songs, and putting on an amazing show.

Wilson made light of the situation, telling fans about the funny moment after members of her crew saw her draws showing. She also quickly scooted off the stage, making a fast costume change and quickly continuing with her concert:

“Y’all just about got a real show… a REAL show.

There’s a first time for everything and I’m glad it was y’all that I split my pants wide open in front of. You can’t make that up… I’d have never known had my people back here not seen it.

Alright… I got some new pants on. I’ll tell you what, try and put on some jeans when you sweating… it ain’t fun. You gotta jump in them things.”

Handled it like a champ…

And speaking with Newsweek about the incident this week, Lainey didn’t seem too phased by it at all, saying that she viewed it as “just another day in showbiz”:

“You know, I kind of view it as just another day in showbiz, because even when I was playing fairs and things like that, like, I would have a wardrobe malfunction, and you just got to keep rolling with it, you know?”

Probably the attitude you have to, or at least should have, doing what she does for a living and always being in front of people performing.

Lainey added that she fell back on her life philosophy of asking “What would Dolly do?” in the situation, saying she knew her musical hero would probably just laugh it off and keep going.

Additionally, she says she knows it probably won’t be the last time something like this happens onstage, so there’s no point in getting bent out of shape over it:

“I was taught, no matter what happens, you just keep on going. And so I think back to ‘What would Dolly do?’ She would laugh about it and she would probably pick on herself and make a joke and then just roll on.

And the truth is, I’m probably gonna split my pants again, and then I’ll have to make another joke about it. But it goes to show you—no pun intended—that we all put our pants on the same way, one leg at a time—and sometimes they split.”

Lainey is gearing up to release her new albumWhirlwind on August 23rd, and has a brand new one called “Good Horses” with Miranda Lambert dropping this Friday.

She’s has released three songs from the albums 14-song tracklist thus far, including “4x4xU,” “Country’s Cool Again” and “Hang Tight Honey.”
