A man from Kent has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and kidnap after an alleged heist in which cryptocurrency valued at about £1.1m was taken.

Two men and three women were travelling in the car in Oxford on the afternoon of 4 November when a group of masked men entered the vehicle.

Once inside the vehicle, the offenders stole a watch valued at around $590,000 and phones from the victims.

The offenders also forced one of the victims to transfer $1.5m of crypto currency out of their account.

After about thirty minutes, the offenders left the vehicle in the Five Mile Drive area of Oxford, and the victims called Thames Valley Police.

The force has been conducting an investigation into the offences and has also conducted warrants in London and Birmingham along with arrests in Kent.

In total four men have been arrested, including a 23-year-old man from Kent who was arrested on suspicion of robbery and kidnap.

He has been released on police bail until February 7 next year.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Stuart McMaster said: “I am appealing to members of the public who may have seen anything suspicious or have footage of three vehicles in some specific locations in Oxford and Kidlington.

“We want to hear from you if you saw or have footage of either a black BMW saloon car, a blue Hyundai Ioniq or a silver Mercedes Benz Vito in the area of Yarnton Road and Sandy Lane between Kidlington and Yarnton, or in Five Mile Drive, Carey Close, Rotherfield Road and Kirk Close in Oxford between 1pm and 4pm on Tuesday 4 November.

The other men arrested are:

– A 21-year-old from London who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery, kidnap and other driving offences. He has been released on police bail until January 14.

– A 37-year-old man from London who was arrested on suspicion of robbery and kidnap. He has been released on police bail until January 30.

– A 19-year-old man from Birmingham who was arrested on suspicion of robbery, kidnap and possession of articles for use in fraud. He has been released on police bail until January 29.
