TULSA, Okla. — Thanksgiving travel is already underway as the first people going somewhere headed out this weekend. Here’s what one local auto shop says are some of the biggest things to keep in mind that can ruin your Thanksgiving plans.

AAA estimates more that nearly 50 million Americans will hit the road for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Many drivers will travel hundreds of miles to be with family, leading to wear, tear and possible breakdowns along the way.

“It’s always more affordable to do preventative maintenance, versus active repair,” said Justin Tucker.

Trucker manages the Same Day Auto Care shop on East 61st Street and South Lewis Ave.

“When things break, they can break other things,” Tucker said.

The tire and auto repair shop offers a free 65-point holiday travel inspection.

Tucker said breaking down during a holiday can leave you stuck on the side of the road for a long time.

For any road trip, he recommends packing a few blankets and some extra food, as well as having a full a tank of gas.

“The tow companies get very busy over the holidays, because obviously we have a huge uptick in travel,” Tucker said, “they get busier, we get busier, and your wait time is just going to be exponentially longer than if you’d took care of it beforehand.”
