AUSTIN, Texas — Senior forward Arthur Kaluma registered a double-double with a game-high 14 points and game-high 12 rebounds to lead Texas (13-6, 2-4 SEC) to a 61-53 victory over No. 22/24 Missouri (15-4, 4-2 SEC) inside Moody Center on Tuesday night. The win marked UT’s first victory against an AP Top 25 opponent this season, as Missouri marked the fifth ranked opponent that the Longhorns had faced in their last six contests.

Kaluma converted 4-of-10 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws, six of his 12 rebounds came on the offensive glass, and he added two assists, two steals and two blocked shots in 33 minutes. Freshman Tre Johnson recorded 12 points (5-6 FT), four rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes, while graduate Kadin Shedrick nearly recorded a double-double with nine points (5-6 FT) and nine rebounds in 24 minutes.

Defense and rebounding proved to be the keys to victory for Texas. The Longhorns limited Missouri to a season-low 53 points on 31.3-percent (15-48) shooting from the field, including an 18.2-percent mark (4-22) from three-point range. The Tigers entered Tuesday’s contest averaging 84.8 ppg on 49.2-percent field goal shooting, including a 37.9-percent mark from three-point range. The Longhorns also registered a plus-8 rebound margin (39-31), including a 14-8 edge on the offensive glass, and posted a 20-4 advantage in second-chance points.

An Anthony Robinson II jumper gave the Tigers an early 4-1 advantage at the 13:41 mark, before Texas responded with a 12-4 run over the next five-and-a-half minutes to grab a 13-8 lead following a Jordan Pope three-pointer with 8:03 remaining. A Robinson II free throw cut the margin to 24-20 at the 3:09 mark, before the Longhorns used back-to-back three-pointers from Kaluma and Johnson to build a 30-20 cushion with 1:57 left. Missouri scored five straight points to trim the deficit to 30-25 after a pair of Caleb Grill free throws at the 1:00 mark, before a Tramon Mark dunk with five seconds left gave the Longhorns a 32-25 advantage at the break.

A pair of Kaluma free throws provided Texas with a 36-32 lead at the 17:01 mark, but the Tigers went on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 41-38 advantage following a Tony Perkins three-pointer with 13:58 remaining. Missouri increased the margin to 45-41 after a pair of Marcus Allen free throws at the 8:43 mark.

A Tamar Bates dunk gave the Tigers a 49-46 cushion with 5:43 left, before a Jayson Kent layup and Shedrick free throw tied the contest at 49-49 at the 4:27 mark. A T.O. Barrett free throw provided Missouri a 50-49 lead with 4:01 remaining, before Texas sealed the victory with a 10-1 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes.

Texas returns to action when it hosts No. 13/13 Texas A&M on Saturday, Jan. 25. Tip is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Central at Moody Center, and the contest will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
