CHICAGO – Harvard University men’s soccer alumnus Matt Freese ’22 has earned an invitation to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s January training camp – the first training camp under head coach Mauricio Pochettino – U.S. Soccer announced on Monday.
 
Freese stands as one of 23 MLS players called to the annual showcase opportunity with matches against Venezuela and Costa Rica highlighting the camp as the U.S. prepares for the 2026 World Cup.
 
The training camp begins Jan. 7 in Ft. Lauderdale, with the team opening its 2025 schedule against 2024 Copa America quarterfinalists Venezuela on Jan. 18 at Chase Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Kickoff for the USA’s first match of the year is set for 3 p.m. ET.
 

The team will then head to Orlando and complete the two-match Florida swing with a friendly against Costa Rica on Jan. 22 at Inter&Co Stadium. Kickoff from the home of Orlando City and NWSL champion Orlando Pride is 7 p.m. ET.
 
A 2018 Second Team All-Ivy selection at Harvard, Freese has played in Major League Soccer for the Philadelphia Union (2019-22) and New York City FC (2023-present). He earned Team MVP honors for NYC FC following the 2024 season.
