Men’s Tennis Closes Fall Opening Weekend in Louisville


LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Finishing its weekend stay in Louisville, Kentucky, the Belmont University men’s tennis team earned a doubles win and a pair of singles victories Sunday at the Louisville Invitational. Freshman Charlie Robin finished as runner-up in the singles Flight C draw, while junior Eli Mizerski and freshman Morgan Woodson were the doubles runner-up in the Flight C bracket.
 
Graduate Niklas von Hellens and Robin earned third place in the doubles Flight B draw with an 8-5 win over Bellarmine’s Louie Fletcher and Eli Wood.
 
Junior Esunge Ndumbe had the most impressive win Sunday, defeating Mitchell Sheldon of Michigan State in three sets, 7-5, 2-6 and 10-7 in the super tiebreaker, in Flight B singles. For the weekend, Ndumbe went 2-1 in singles.
 
Mizerski also collected a singles win on the final day of the Louisville Invitational, rolling past Bellarmine’s Brent Reynolds 6-1, 6-1.

Belmont will have next weekend off before returning to tournament play Friday-Sunday, Sept. 27-29, when the Bruins host the Belmont Fall Invitational and select players head to Cleveland, Ohio, for the inaugural Horizon League Individual Championships.
