(KOAM) – The average price of regular unleaded fuel in Missouri is $2.71 per gallon, according to AAA Missouri’s Weekend Gas Watch.
This marks a two-cent increase from last week but remains 20 cents lower than this time last year.
Among major metro areas, drivers in Columbia and Jefferson City face the highest average at $2.83 per gallon, while Joplin drivers pay the lowest at $2.54. Missouri’s average is significantly below the national average of $3.06, which dropped by two cents this week.
With a record 1.5 million Missourians expected to travel 50 miles or more for Thanksgiving, gas demand has dipped nationally, while domestic gasoline stocks have slightly increased, according to the Energy Information Administration.
“Thanksgiving travelers in Missouri will pay the lowest gas prices for the holiday since 2020,” said AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria. However, AAA cautions that record travel volumes could impact fuel demand and prices in the coming days.
Missouri currently boasts the fifth-lowest average gas price in the U.S. For more information, visit gasprices.aaa.com.
