Movies on the Midway, a free weekly series of children’s movies and outdoor activities, returns to the Midway Plaisance tomorrow night. 

Hosted by the University of Chicago, Movies on the Midway will take place every Wednesday through early August at 1130 Midway Plaisance, between Ellis and University avenues. All activities will begin at 7 p.m.

The July 10 series kickoff will feature a story time session with singer-storyteller Colin McDonald of 57th Street Books, followed by a screening of the 2023 animated adventure movie “Migration.”

Next Wednesday, July 17, families are invited to participate in a martial arts demonstration with the Southside Jiu Jitsu Club, followed by the 2023 animated film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.”

On July 24, the U. of C.’s Dining and Chartwells will help attendees make their own trail mix before a screening of the 2023 musical “Wonka.” The first 100 children will also receive a free chocolate covered pretzel.  

Closing out the series on August 7, a group from the Shedd Aquarium will lead hands-on activities exploring the ocean, followed by a screening of the 2022 live-action musical “The Little Mermaid.”
