Other elements of the transformation include dedicated gym changing rooms, a larger children’s soft-play area and an “overall improved look and feel” throughout the centre.
The gym is expected to be the first of the facilities to be refurbished and is expected to reopen in early 2025.
Services will see “minimal” disruption, according to the council and Everyone Active, who run the site together.
Various classes and activities will be moved to different parts of the building, while the gym will be temporarily relocated to the sports hall.
West Berkshire Council said further refurbishments were planned for Kennet Leisure Centre in Thatcham and Hungerford Leisure Centre.
