Noida: The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is planning to develop an app that will help commuters book cabs, autos or e-rickshaws to reach their destinations after getting off at stations.
The metro corporation has issued a request for proposal to hire an app developer. The fare structure for commuters and the number of vehicles in each category will be decided later in a meeting with private travel agencies.
In its request for proposal document, NMRC said last-mile connectivity was touted as one of the key factors in increasing ridership in a metro corridor, which is why it had taken the decision to launch the app.
The app, the document said, will be available on Google Playstore and IOS. It will have a payment gateway, an SOS button for both riders and drivers — a feature similar to the apps of private cab aggregators.
The NMRC app, however, will have three interfaces — one for riders, another for drivers and a third for the corporation. The interface for the riders will include sign-up page, where a user can fill in details like name, phone number and an email ID, which would be verified by an OTP. Once the user logs in, they can book cabs, autos or e-ricks from the stations.
Like any other cab aggregator’s app, the page will display the nearest drivers, the estimated fare, route map and other details. A rider can also share their live location with friends or family and reach police or an ambulance service through the SOS button.
The drivers’ interface will include options to accept or reject the rides — a key factor that will decide the fate of the project. Once a request is accepted, the driver will reach the pick-up point and use the OTP for starting the ride.
