The No. 9 Boston University men’s ice hockey team will return to Hockey East play this weekend when the Terriers face No. 7 Providence in a home-and-home series that begins Friday night at Schneider Arena before concluding on Saturday at Agganis Arena. Puck drop on both nights is scheduled for 7 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU closed out its non-conference schedule in high style, defeating No. 1 Boston College, 4-1, on Monday night to claim the program’s record 32nd Beanpot title.
- The Terriers trailed after the first period, but goals from freshmen Brandon Svoboda and Cole Hutson just 70 seconds apart gave BU the lead for good.
- Freshman Cole Eiserman and sophomore Gavin McCarthy each lit the lamp late in the third to seal the victory.
- Hutson was named MVP after finishing the tournament with five points (3g, 2a) while classmate Mikhail Yegorov took home the Eberly Award after stopping 69 of 71 shots across the two tilts, including a career-high 43 saves against the Eagles.
- Yegorov owns a 1.41 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage in five starts, having allowed just two 5-on-5 goals since joining the Terriers in late January.
- Hutson enters the weekend on a four-game point streak (3g, 4a) and has notched at least one point in 10 of his last 11 tilts.
- He leads all NCAA freshmen defensemen as well as all Hockey East defensemen, regardless of class, in goals (8), assists (20) and points (28).
- Eiserman and junior Quinn Hutson are tied for the team lead with 16 goals apiece while Quinn also leads BU with 33 points (16g, 17a).
- Q. Hutson is three points shy of 100 for his career, entering Friday with 49 goals and 48 assists for 97 points, and will become the first Terrier since Bobo Carpenter (2015-19) to score 50 goals the next time he lights the lamp.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU and Providence first met in the 1926-27 season and have played 196 times since that encounter, with the Terriers leading the series, 118-59-20 (.650).
- That includes a 17-5-5 record at Agganis Arena and a 39-31-9 mark at Schneider Arena.
- BU has not lost to Providence at Agganis Arena since the 2018-19 season.
- The Terriers are 6-0-1 in their last seven matchups with the Friars dating back to the 2020-21 campaign.
- BU has shut out PC on 19 occasions while only being blanked six times.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
- Providence enters the weekend No. 7 in both national polls as well as the all-important PairWise rankings.
- The Friars are just 2-4-3 since the start of 2025, including a 2-0 win at Brown on Jan. 7 and a 6-3 victory at UConn on Feb. 1.
- Four of the Friars’ last six games have gone to overtime, with Providence going 0-1-3 in those contests, including three shootout losses.
- Graduate student Logan Will leads Providence with 20 points on eight goals and a team-best 12 assists while sophomore Tanner Adams has scored a team-high 10 goals.
- Junior Philip Svedebäck has started 19 of his 20 appearances this season, going 11-5-4 with a .916 save percentage and a 2.34 goals-against average.
- Graduate student Zachary Borgiel, a transfer from Merrimack, has started all nine of his appearances. • He boasts a .931 save percentage and a 2.13 goals-against average.
