Posted on: Jul 03, 2024

Edmonton, AB (July 4, 2024) – The Rocky View Métis District of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta is excited to host the first ever Métis Culture Days starting Friday, July 5 at Lake Louise. Métis Culture Days will run until Sunday, July 7 and will be jam-packed with lots of fun and free Métis cultural activities. Everyone is welcome to attend. The event was made possible thanks to a grant provided by Parks Canada.

“I am thrilled to be attending this inaugural Métis Culture Days,” said Andrea Sandmaier, President of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase our distinct culture and traditions to a large audience. On behalf of our government, I would also like to thank Parks Canada for its contribution.”

There will be a wide variety of different activities, such as medicine tea making, fish scale art and much more. Of course, no Métis event would be complete without traditional Métis jigging and fiddling!

“I am very proud that, with the support of Parks Canada, we can share our culture and art with visitors from around the world,” said Amber Boyd, District Captain of the Rocky View Métis District. “I hope this first Métis Culture Days at Lake Louise will be the start of an annual tradition to celebrate the Métis way of life. I look forward to welcoming everyone to the festivities.”

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government acknowledges the work done by Captain Boyd and the Rocky View Métis District in making Métis Culture Days a reality.

“I want to thank Captain Boyd and her team for all their hard work in bringing this exciting event to Lake Louise. I am thrilled to be part of such a dynamic team that works so hard to bring events like Métis Culture Days to life,” concludes President Sandmaier.
