BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – The Corvette is one of the most recognizable sports cars in the world.

They have made their way into pop culture over the decades with appearances in multiple films including the Transformers series, video games like Gran Turismo, and music videos from country stars such as Brad Paisley.

The National Corvette Museum is now hosting a pop culture exhibition where some of these famous Corvettes are on display to the public.

“There are actually very few brands that have kind of transcended into that pop culture realm and have solidified themselves in American history like Corvette has,” explained Robert Maxhimer, the Director of Curatorial Affairs and Education at the National Corvette Museum. “When we were developing this exhibition there were a lot of different options as far as the avenues we could go down, so it’s not all just film and TV.”

Among the famous vehicles in the Pop Culture & Corvette exhibition is a 1968 silver Corvette that once belonged to astronaut Jim Lovell.

According to the Corvette Museum, General Motors fostered a partnership with America’s astronauts during the height of the Space Race in the ‘60s, where astronauts could lease any Chevrolet vehicle for only $1 a year. Many astronauts made Corvettes their vehicle of choice.

Maxhimer said that the new exhibit is essentially a spin-off from 2023’s 70th Anniversary exhibit, which was predominantly focused on Corvettes in general over the past seven decades.

The pop culture exhibit allowed the National Corvette Museum to showcase famous Corvettes that have influenced pop culture.

Twelve vehicles are currently on display for the Pop Culture & Corvette exhibition in the Corvette Museum’s Skydome. They have also incorporated a new video on an eight-foot sky wall, which features scenes from various movies, shows, and other media where the vehicles were originally depicted.

The Pop Culture & Corvette exhibition is open to the public and will run through October 2025.
