Prince Andrew accuser Virginia Giuffre’s ex says Royal ‘can’t use privilege to dodge case’

Prince Andrew must not be allowed to use his privilege as a royal to dodge Virginia Giuffre’s civil sex abuse case, her ex-boyfriend has declared.

Anthony Figueroa, 39, claims Virginia told him she “was scared” by what Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell wanted her to do with the Queen’s son.

And he alleges Virginia, who was then just 17, was repeatedly made to have sex with the prince’s pal Ghislaine – who is now facing up to 65 years in jail after being convicted of grooming girls earlier this week.

Anthony says the disgraced British socialite forced Virginia to have intercourse with her, both with and without the presence of Epstein, who died in a Manhattan prison in 2019.

The restaurant worker in Atlanta, Georgia, told our sister paper the Sunday Mirror: “Being royal makes no difference. Andrew has to face up to the case.

“I remember the first time Virginia mentioned Prince Andrew in 2001.

“She knew ahead of time she would be meeting him and said she knew what they wanted her to do with him and she didn’t want to do it.

“She said she was scared and nervous of what they wanted. I was in my friend’s apartment worried and told her she had to do whatever it took to feel safe.”

Anthony was in a relationship with Virginia, then known as Virginia Roberts, at the time she alleges Prince Andrew had sex with her on three different occasions in 2001.

His testimony could potentially make him a key witness for Virginia’s legal team.

Virginia, now 38, is due in court on Tuesday in New York for the next stage of her ongoing civil action against the prince.

She claims he had sex with her while under Epstein’s control in London, New York and on Epstein’s private Caribbean island Little St James.

Andrew, 61, vehemently denies all of the allegations and there is no suggestion he knew of any pressure being placed on Virginia.

As part of the civil case, Virginia’s legal team are now demanding eight discovery requests of the duke, including medical proof of the claims he made during a car crash Newsnight interview in 2019 that he could not sweat on the date she claims they danced together in a London nightclub.

They also want evidence the prince was at Pizza Express in Woking, Surrey, that night as he claimed, when she says he sexually assaulted her.

On Friday, Andrew’s lawyers were unsuccessful in an attempt to get the case dismissed on a technicality by claiming the US

court does not have jurisdiction as Virginia lives in Australia.

But they are again set to try to get the case thrown out on Tuesday, as pressure continues to mount on the prince following the prosecution of Maxwell, 60, who was found guilty of five charges of sex trafficking and grooming young girls on Wednesday.

Anthony claims she callously recruited Virginia, who was not part of that court case, before using her as bait to attract more victims.

He said: “I think Virginia would have been impressed with her at first but Ghislaine used Virginia.

“Virginia told me she would go out with Ghislaine and be made to recruit other girls – pick them up in clubs and stuff. She used Virginia to get to girls Virginia’s age.”

Anthony and Virginia first met when she was aged 14 and he was 15 and were high school sweethearts, before reuniting and moving in together after meeting again three years later via a mutual pal.

He says Virginia would leave their apartment for up to two weeks every month to take flights on Epstein’s “Lolita Express” jet to locations including his private Caribbean island Little St James – known as paedo island – as well as his homes in New York and New Mexico and other luxury locations, including St Tropez.

Anthony says he visited Epstein’s former “house of horrors” mansion in Palm Beach, where he met other young girls he believed were being controlled by the mega-rich financier.

Speaking about the power dynamic between himself and Virginia – who he later lived with in a trailer – and Epstein and Maxwell, he said: “They were manipulating us both.

“They had money and could do whatever the f*** they wanted. They knew we were kids and were stupid.

“I know people will question why I carried on dating Virginia but I didn’t question it until later. The whole situation was bad and Jeffrey and Ghislaine pushed Virginia into a bad place.

“At first, the money was part of our thinking. We had our own place as a result and, whenever Virginia went away with them, she would leave me with a few hundred dollars or even a grand in cash. At 18, getting that every two weeks was a big deal.”

US authorities have said that at least 40 girls were taken to the Miami property under the pretence of giving massages for cash – only to then be sexually abused by Epstein.

It featured creepy paintings of naked women hanging on the walls, as well as a photo of a topless Maxwell lounging and a black and white portrait of her holding a dog.

Virginia claims she was first taken to the mansion after being approached by Maxwell while working at Donald Trump’s nearby country club Mar-a-Lago. Anthony said: “There were always random girls there, all over the place.

“Young girls from France and South Africa. I talked to some of them. It seemed like when a guy goes to a strip club … they gave a sense that they ‘had’ to like you.

“They weren’t really interested in talking to you but they would. It wasn’t natural, it was like they were being forced or paid. It was all fake.”

Anthony says he knew from the start of his relationship with Virginia that she was working as a masseuse for Epstein but was not initially aware of the perverted financier and Maxwell’s full depravity.

He said: “I was like, 18, so I didn’t really understand the bigger picture. I was told she was Jeffrey’s personal masseuse because she had connected with him and Ghislaine and they wanted her to travel with them.

“The truth came out when we had arguments. I would say to her, ‘I don’t believe that’s what’s really going on’. That was when she told me she was being told to have sex with men. We were trying to build a life and we loved each other. I wanted her to get out but she couldn’t.”

Anthony added: “Virginia also told me how she and Ghislaine used to have sex.

“Sometimes, just the two of them. Sometimes it was with other girls, sometimes with Jeffrey.”

FBI agents investigating Epstein’s global sex ring have been asking to speak to Prince Andrew as a possible witness for at least the last two years.

But a request filed with the Home Office under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty has still not been actioned.

Anthony, who has a partner and children, is still haunted by the infamous photo of Andrew with his arm around Virginia’s waist inside Maxwell’s mews house in Kensington.

And he blames the royal for the break-up of their relationship, which lasted 18 months between 2000 and 2001 while they were living together in an apartment in Palm Beach. He said: “I didn’t see the photo of her with Andrew until after we had split.

“When I first saw it, I was so p****d. I got insanely mad. It still p****s me off now to think about it because from the times she got back from seeing Andrew, things were completely different. That was what ended our relationship.

“At that point, the magnitude of what she was involved in ended up getting Virginia really terrified.

“Walking away from someone like Epstein with so much power and reach isn’t easy because if you suddenly say ‘no’, what’s to stop them putting a bag over your head and making you disappear?”

The duke claims he has “no recollection” of ever meeting Virginia but her lawyers claim they now have up to six witnesses willing to testify they met.

Among them is Florida hairdresser Johanna Sjoberg, 41, who has claimed Andrew touched her breast while playing with a latex Spitting Image puppet of himself inside Epstein’s New York mansion.

And Virginia’s lawyers have secured the testimony of Steve Scully, who worked for Epstein and says he saw Andrew and

Virginia kiss on Epstein’s private island.

It is believed Virginia may be allowed to give a victim impact statement to Judge Alison Nathan before she sentences Maxwell.
