CARBONDALE. Ill. –  The Southern Illinois Track and Field programs tallied five first place finishers at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday. The women’s team finished in fourth place and the men finished in second place.

“We had some breakthrough races this past weekend at Notre Dame,” said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Richard Jones. “The athletes are hitting top conference marks as well as personal bests, but there is still a lot of indoor season left to go.”

On the men’s side, sophomore sprinter Jeremiah Hamilton had a first place finish in the 400m Dash tallying a time of 48.89. Dawson Plab finished first in the high jump with a mark of 2.08m. The men’s final first place finisher was freshmen sprinter Xavier Preston, recording a time of 21.23 in the 200m dash. 

The women’s team had two first place finishers of their own. In the 1-mile run senior Rachel Anderson ran the second fastest time in SIU history with a mark of 4:47.78. Sprinter Iaunia Pointer finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 24.03. 

“This is a direct reflection of the program’s focus and dedication to our mantra to win as one with one team, one goal. It was a very encouraging weekend,” Jones said.
