FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men’s soccer team defeated Navy, 2-0, in the season opener on Thursday night at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Md.
George Mason (1-0-0) took the lead over the Midshipmen (0-1-0) in the 22nd minute of play.
Patriots graduate student midfielder Henry Wachsman scored the eventual game-winning goal with a header into the upper right corner from six yard out. Graduate student Luis Maestre picked up the assist on the goal.
Sophomore midfielder James Eliuda made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute when he found the back of the net from six yards outs off a cross from graduate student defender Jordi Navio Sanchez.
Mason graduate student goalkeeper Jaume Salvado (1-0-0) made one save, while Navy senior goalkeeper Pierce Holbrock made four saves in the match.
The Patriots held the Midshipmen without a shot on goal until the final minutes of the match.

22′ | Wachsman scored with a header into the upper right corner from just outside the six.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
George Mason outshot Navy, 15-10, including a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Midshipmen finished with five corner kicks, while Patriots had four corner kicks in the match.
Freshman forward Martim Sereno led all players with four shots. Sophomore midfielder Quentin Clain registered three shots and led the Patriots with two shots on goal.
Freshman midfielder Javier Montava recorded one shot on goal in his collegiate debut. Clain and Sereno also each made their NCAA debut.
Graduate student forward Marek Gonda, graduate student defender Leo Lemoine and Sanchez each made their George Mason debut.
