DAYTON – The University of Dayton women’s basketball team travels down to Nashville for the Music City Classic next week. The Flyers will face Maryland Eastern Shore Monday at 12 p.m. ET before taking on South Dakota Tuesday at 12 p.m. ET.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS

Dayton heads south with a 4-1 record on the year and two-game winning streak. The Flyers 0-1 on the road this season and will play their first neutral site games this week. UD was 3-1 on neutral courts last season.  

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her third season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

The Flyers are averaging 68.8 points per game and giving up 63.4 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 42.6 percent overall, 29.9 percent from three point range, and 67.0 percent from the free throw line. UD benefits from positive rebounding and turnover margins.

Leading the way for the Flyers is senior Ivy Wolf with 17.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while graduate transfer Rikki Harris is adding 8.2 points and senior Arianna Smith is chipping in 7.3 points and 8.0 rebounds each outing.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE


Maryland Eastern Shore faces Dayton with a 3-2 record this season and is also on a two-game winning streak. The Hawks are 0-1 away from home and are playing their first neutral site contest.

Head coach Malikah Willis is in her first season at the helm of the Hawks.

As a team, UMES is scoring 62.6 points each contest and holding opposing squads to 52.4 points per game. The Hawks are shooting 39.3 percent from the field, 20.3 percent from behind the arc, and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe. Like UD, UMES also has positive rebounding and turnover margins.

Zamara Haynes leads the Hawks with 15.2 points, 2.6 steals, and 28.8 minutes per game. Brianna Barnes and Ashanti Lynch are contributing 8.4 points and 8.0 points respectively as well.

The Flyers and Hawks are meeting for the first time in program history.

LEADING THE PACK

Ivy Wolf leads the A-10 and ranks 16th in the country in three pointers and 21st in attempts.

FLYERS PICKED 11TH IN PRESEASON POLL

Dayton was picked to finish 11th in the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 preseason poll with 84 points. The Flyers were picked ahead of George Washington, Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure, and La Salle. Richmond was chosen as the preseason favorites, followed by Saint Joseph’s, George Mason, and Davidson.

PREPPING FOR A-10 PLAY

Dayton’s non-conference schedule features eight home games, one true road game, and two neutral site games. Besides hosting the likes of Providence and Vanderbilt, UD traveled to No. 16 Duke on Nov. 14 and will participate in the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
