RAPID CITY, S.D. – Finding the right hairstyle can be a challenge for kids, but for Finn Hannan of New Underwood, his unique style has led to a special calling.
When Finn was about four, he had long, curly hair. “He wanted a boy haircut that’s long,” said his mother, Tami Hannan. “We introduced the idea of the mullet, and his uncle even got a mullet too, so Finn could be like him. It was really fun and kind of happened by accident.”
Whenever Finn goes out in public, his distinctive hair catches everyone’s attention. “Somebody mentioned there was a mullet competition, so we looked it up,” Tami explained. “It was a fundraiser for a cool program, and we thought it would be fun for Finn to participate.”
Finn is now in his second year of the Mullet Champ competition. “We made it to the second round last year, and we’re hoping to go all the way this year,” he said. The competition raises money for Homes for Wounded Warriors. “I want to raise a whole bunch of money for people in the army who don’t have houses,” Finn shared.
The national mullet competition allows people to vote for Finn by searching for his page and casting a free vote every 24 hours.
Round 1 voting ends Wednesday, July 17th. To support Finn, visit his page on the Mullet Champ site. All proceeds go to Homes for Wounded Warriors.
