Netflix is adding 44 new movies and shows to the streaming service this week, and there’s one name that quickly rose to the top of the list: “Man on Fire.” No, I’m not talking about the Denzel Washington movie. It’s based on the same source material, but this is a brand-new miniseries starring “Wonder Man” lead Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
If you want something with fewer explosions, there is a new family-friendly animated movie worth checking out. “Swapped” stars Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan as a tiny, otter-like creature, and it feels like a breath of fresh air in a world fully of Disney sequels.

‘Man on Fire’
Genre: Action thriller series
What it’s about: Former mercenary John Creasy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is trying to leave his dark past behind. But a quest for revenge might put those plans on hold.
Why you should watch it: If you’ve seen “Wonder Man” or “Watchmen,” you know that having Abdul-Mateen II in your show is typically a good thing. Add in that he’s playing a character previously portrayed by Denzel Washington, and I’m officially sold.

‘Swapped’
Genre: Animated comedy movie
What it’s about: Ollie (Michael B. Jordan) is a Pookoo, a small otter-like creature, whose sworn enemy in “The Valley” is Ivy (Juno Temple), a Kākāpō-like bird known as a Javan. These two constantly fight until one day a magical plant causes them to swap bodies. Now, they have to find another plant to swap back.
Why you should watch it: If you’re tired of Disney sequels, this original animated comedy looks like it’s worth checking out. Plus, it’s got a great voice cast, including Tracy Morgan and Cedric the Entertainer in addition to Jordan and Temple.

‘Should I Marry A Murderer?’
Genre: Docuseries
What it’s about: When Dr. Caroline Muirhead asked her fiancé if there were any skeletons in his closet, it wasn’t meant literally. But when Alexander McKellar then confessed to a murder, she was left with the decision of turning in the man she loved or marrying a murderer.
Why you should watch it: A lot of true crime docuseries can feel the same once you’ve written about a few dozen. But this one has a premise I was definitely not expecting. Worth checking out if you’re a fan of the genre.

‘Straight to Hell’
Genre: Docudrama series
What it’s about: Kazuko Hosoki became one of Japan’s most influential post-war figures. But while beloved by some, the former nightclub manager turned celebrity fortune teller was also a controversial figure, despised and feared by those who thought she was a trickster.
Why you should watch it: This docudrama expands on the life of a dominant figure in Japan that those outside the island nation might not know much about. Plus, as a dramatization, it looks like it’ll be quite entertaining. Just make sure to take its claims with a grain of salt.

‘Je m’appelle Agneta’
Genre: Romantic comedy movie
What it’s about: Wishing to leave her stale life behind, Agneta (Eva Melander) decides to take a job as an au pair for a Swedish boy in Provence. But when she arrives at work, she discovers she’s taking care of Einar (Claes Mansson), an older Swedish man suffering from dementia.
Why you should watch it: With an intriguing and amusing premise, “Je m’appelle Agneta” seems like a fun rom-com movie. The trailer indicates much of the same. Just make sure you don’t mind subtitles.

‘My Dearest Señorita’
Genre: Spanish drama movie
What it’s about: Adela (Elisabeth Martínez) is an only child, living in 1999 Pamplona, Spain. Their Conservative mother is overbearing, and so Adela leaves for a journey of self-discovery in Madrid. What Adela doesn’t know is that she’s intersex, and that this journey will explore their intersexuality in ways they won’t be expecting.
Why you should watch it: This Spanish-language drama is actually an adaptation of the 1972 film “Mi Querida Señorita,” and it’s been garnering some praise in early reviews. It’s also featuring an intersex actor in Martínez, a rarity, especially given that they’re also portraying an intersex character.

‘Million Dollar Secret’ season 2 (new episodes)
Genre: Reality competition series
What it’s about: Well-spoken English actor Peter Serafinowicz hosts 12 contestants hoping to win $1 million. The money is in a box, and that box is in one of their rooms. Now, whoever has the cash just needs to eliminate the others before someone takes it.
Why you should watch it: If you like “The Traitors,” this hunt for money is loaded with the sort of messy betrayals you know and love. Plus, you even get an erudite host from the British Isles.
