Daveigh Chase‘s dad, John Schwallier, is reacting to her cause of death.
Both Daveigh‘s mother and father had not seen her in years. John says he had not seen her in person since she was 6 years old, though they apparently spoke on the phone as she grew up. Daveigh‘s mom Cathy last saw her in 2019.
This week, it was revealed that the 35-year-old former child star, known for The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, died from AIDS and chronic polysubstance use.
After learning this news, John told The California Post that Daveigh‘s cause of death “doesn’t surprise” him, and said “it is what it is….It’s something you sometimes have to expect with the lifestyle she was living.”
“I had an empty feeling inside for not being with her for all these years,” he continued.
In her final years, Daveigh had battled addiction issues and homelessness.
In response to reports that had emerged, her former manager released a lengthy statement and made several claims against the man who identified himself as Daveigh‘s boyfriend.
