At 421 Arts Campus, an immersive group exhibition considers whispers, gossip and storytelling as powerful forms of collective knowledge.

What happens when knowledge is carried not through official records, but through whispers, murmurs, stories and shared acts of listening? ‘Archipelago of Whispers’, curated by Deniz Kirkali and Elham Puriya Mehr, explores the informal networks through which meaning travels between people, places and experiences.
Presented at 421 Arts Campus, the exhibition moves beyond conventional systems of knowledge to consider gossip as an affective and relational space. Rather than dismissing it as unreliable or trivial, the curators examine its capacity to carry memory, speculation, care and collective experience across social and geographical boundaries.
Through video, multi-channel works and sound installations, ‘Archipelago of Whispers’ unfolds as what the curators describe as a “listening ecology”, foregrounding voice, silence and participation. Communication extends beyond the human, while overlapping voices and fragmented narratives invite audiences to consider how knowledge is continuously formed, exchanged and transformed.
At a moment when digital media increasingly shapes how information circulates, the exhibition returns attention to interpersonal forms of exchange. Here, viewers become listeners and co-authors, navigating the fertile spaces between truth and imagination, speech and silence, presence and absence.
This exhibition will be on view at 421 Arts Campus, Abu Dhabi, from 4 October 2026 to 10 January 2027.
