Attention millennials: Kesha is bringing back a piece of our youths!
The pop star made a surprise announcement Oct. 25, sharing that she’ll be releasing the music video for song “Backstabber,” posting a quick teaser. It comes a whopping 16 years after the track debuted as part of her 2010 hit album “Animal.”
“I can’t believe I’m saying this but after 16 years, it’s finally here,” Kesha wrote on social media, adding that the music video will be dropping at 1 p.m. EST on Oct. 26.
The artist did not share why she is releasing the music video now. And Kesha’s representatives did not immediately respond to TODAY.com’s questions about the timing.
In the teaser that she shared across her social media accounts, Kesha is dolled up in her signature smudged, black eyeliner and messy party hair, reminiscent of her early 2010s era of music. The teaser also appears to feature a gold car that she tweeted about just days prior.
In a set of tweets from Oct. 24, Kesha asked fans, “WHO THE FCK STOLE MY CAR?!?!!” before sharing a photo of the gold whip along with a number to text.
The album “Animal” featured some of Kesha’s most popular hits including songs “Tik Tok,” “Your Love is My Drug” and “Take It Off” to name a few. It marked the artist’s entrance into mainstream stardom.
The pop star’s career included several years that were interrupted by legal battles between her and her former producer Dr. Luke, whom she previously accused of sexual assault. The producer then sued her for defamation.
In 2023, the artist released a joint statement with the producer, announcing a settlement in his defamation suit over her allegation that he raped her.
