EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — Bernie Sanders joined Rebecca Cooke in Eau Claire Sunday at a ‘Get-Out-The-Vote’ rally and canvass event, one week before the midterm elections.
Sanders and Cooke spoke with supporters at the event about affordability, government accountability and the importance of rural hospitals. They urged voters to hit the polls.
Sanders said the stakes in this election are higher than ever.
“In my view this is the most important midterm election in the modern history in our country and maybe even the history of our country,” he said.
Cooke said that if voters come together in nine days, they can flip the seat and win the House majority.
“I know if we come together in nine days we can flip the seat and win the House majority and take our country back,” Cooke said.
Cooke faces off against incumbent Rep. Derrick Van Orden on November 3.
Van Orden’s office provided the following statement on Cooke and Sanders event Sunday:
“Rebecca Cooke wants Wisconsin voters to believe she’s the champion of working families, but she’s campaigning alongside millionaire socialist Bernie Sanders.
Bernie has spent his career pushing bigger government, higher taxes, and a socialist agenda while building his own personal fortune. That’s easy to do when you’re a career politician.
Wisconsin farmers, small business owners, and hardworking families don’t need an east coast millionaire politician telling them how to live their lives. They need a representative who will fight for their paychecks, protect their family farms, and put Wisconsin first.
Rebecca Cooke can lie about her working-class roots all she wants. Her choice of political allies tells you plenty about where she stands.”
