Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes etched his named into the franchise’s record books on Saturday night after picking up an assist on Brock Boeser‘s goal.

The Vancouver Canucks returned to action on Saturday night as they looked to start the season 2-0-0 following a big win on opening night against the Calgary Flames.
Standing between Vancouver and a two-game winning streak was Connor McDavid and the two-time defending Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers and if it wasn’t for the stellar play of Thatcher Demko, last night’s result might have been a lot worse than it actually was.
Edmonton came out on top, defeating the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 3-1, outshooting Adam Foote’s group 36 to 15, but for captain Quinn Hughes, he managed to set a new franchise record in the loss.

47 seconds into the third period, Brock Boeser, who set a franchise record of his own during Thursday’s win vs Calgary, cut Edmonton’s lead to one with his second goal of the season, assisted by captain Quinn Hughes and forward Jake DeBrusk.

“Less than a minute in – that’s how you answer back. 😤” the Canucks said following Boeser’s goal.

With the assist on Boeser’s goal, captain Quinn Hughes has passed Alexander Edler for first on the Vancouver Canucks’ all-time points list by a defenseman with 410 (59 goals, 351 assists).

“HISTORY MADE!

Captain Quinn Hughes sets a new standard of excellence becoming the all-time points leader for a #Canucks defenceman.” the Canucks said.

“QUINN HUGHES STANDS ALONE ‼️

With his 410th career point, he is now the Canucks’ leading scorer by a defenceman 👏” Sportsnet said.

After the game, Hughes spoke about the impressive accomplishment, saying that it means a lot to him and he feels honoured to have reached this milestone early on in his seventh season in the National Hockey League.

“Yeah it means lots. It’s a great organization, a lot of great players coming through over the 56 years the Canucks have been around, so honoured for sure.” Hughes said.

The 25-year-old will look to extend his lead atop the Canucks’ all-time defensive points list starting tomorrow as Vancouver returns home for a Thanksgiving matinee against Pius Suter & the St. Louis Blues.
