A museum-fashion crossover collaboration project was recently launched during the 22nd China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair in Shenzhen, South China’s Guangdong province.
The cultural fair from May 21 to 25 showcased achievements in cultural industry development, attracting 6,312 online and offline exhibitors, with more than 120,000 cultural products.
Zhengzhou Yishow Characteristic Town Operation and Management Co, together with Sanmenxia Miaodigou Museum and designer Zhang Yichao, signed a strategic cooperation agreement, marking the official launch of a co-branding project.

The Miaodigou site in Sanmenxia, Henan province, after which the museum is named, dates back around 6,000 years and represents the peak of Yangshao Culture, which flourished in the Central Plains. Its painted pottery features a variety of painted black patterns, such as petal and crescent motifs, which embody the ancient people’s aesthetics and passion for life.
The co-branding project aims to design clothing based on the petal motifs and bring these products to consumers.
Grounded in the museum’s collection, the project will bring more partners together to reinterpret traditional culture for modern audiences and develop cultural and creative products.

“Archaeological findings show that the Miaodigou-type painted pottery patterns have spread widely across China, exerting a far-reaching influence on prehistoric cultures throughout the Yellow River basin and even broader regions. These floral motifs have also spread, carrying not merely a decorative style, but a profound sense of cultural identity,” said Tian Kai, former head of Henan Museum, who attended the event.
He said that Miaodigou museum should not merely display cultural relics under exhibition spotlights, but truly bring ancient aesthetics into modern life. To realize this vision, the museum needs partners who understand traditional culture and can transform it into modern artistic language.
“Combining elements of cultural relics into apparel is one of the fastest ways to spread traditional culture to the public,” said Zhang, the designer.
“The petal motifs from Yangshao Culture are deeply tied to fashion aesthetics, as flowers are an element that enrich life with beauty and surprise. We can revitalize this ancient culture through modern design.”
