Several travel watches and advisories are in effect for our area.

All of our Indiana counties are under a travel advisory or travel watch for Sunday due to snowy road conditions.

Elkhart County

Elkhart County Emergency Management Agency announced that, due to deteriorating road conditions, the county’s travel status has been upgraded to a travel watch.

They are asking residents to stay home unless they are commuting to work or experiencing an emergency situation.

Current road conditions are becoming hazardous and unpredictable, and travel may pose a significant risk to your safety and the safety of others, according to Elkhart County EMA.

Fulton County

Fulton County declared a Travel Watch. Only essential travel is recommended, as roads pose a threat to public safety.

Kosciusko County

Due to poor road conditions with blowing and drifting across roadways in the county, Kosciusko has elevated to Watch travel status.

Only essential travel is recommended, as roads pose a threat to public safety.

LaGrange County

LaGrange County has upgraded to a Travel Watch Status.

According to the LaGrange Emergency Management Agency, a “Watch” means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public.

During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

The agency posted to its Facebook page, “Highway workers are out and if you can stay off the roads, it will help them out alot. Vehicles that are stuck in the roadways cause the process to slow down substantially.”

LaPorte County

LaPorte County declared a Travel Advisory. Individuals should use caution or avoid these areas.

Marshall County

Marshall County declared a Travel Watch. Only essential travel is recommended, as roads pose a threat to public safety.

Marshall County EMA encourages businesses, schools, and other facilities to activate their Emergency Operations Plan and act in the interest of their employees and the public’s safety.

Pulaski County

Pulaski County declared a Travel Watch. Only essential travel is recommended, as roads pose a threat to public safety.

Starke County

Starke County declared a Travel Watch.

During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to, and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and an emergency action plan should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

Starke County Emergency Management officials will continue to monitor weather and road conditions throughout the night and into tomorrow.

St. Joseph County

St. Joseph County declared a Travel Advisory. Routine travel or activities may be restricted in certain areas due to hazardous situations, and individuals should exercise caution or avoid these areas.

The Saint Joseph County Fire Territory advises that if you don’t have to be out, stay home. Stay home, stay warm, and let the roads clear.

They add if you must travel:

Slow down and increase following distance

Keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle

Dress in layers and cover exposed skin

Keep your phone charged

Let someone know where you’re going
