DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) — Do endorsements matter? Iowans will find out Tuesday night when primary election returns come in following two potentially significant endorsements in the five-person Republican campaign for governor.

Early Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump announced his endorsement of U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra, (R – 4th District, Hull). Feenstra had praised Trump repeatedly throughout the campaign as he has tried to solidy support within Trump’s Make America Great Again followers.

Later in the afternoon, Turning Point Action, the political arm of the young conservatives organization that the late Charlie Kirk founded, announced its endorsement for the man who could be Feenstra’s primary challenger for the nomination, business owner Zach Lahn of Belle Plaine.

The two different endorsements offer the potential to drive late support to the respective candidates, unless the other challengers –state Representative Eddie Andrews of Johnston, former Iowa Department of Administrative Services Director Adam Steen of Runnells, and former state representative Brad Sherman of Williamsburg, can find a late surge of support of their own.
