Ajith Kumar’s last release, Good Bad Ugly, was bankrolled by Telugu production giant Mythri Movie Makers.
The film emerged as a commercial success in Tamil Nadu, but industry circles claim that a substantial portion of the budget went towards the star’s remuneration, leaving producers with limited profit margins.
According to reports, Ajith was paid a massive fee for the film, and his current remuneration demands have become a major talking point in the industry.
Despite Good Bad Ugly performing well, neither Mythri Movie Makers nor any major Tamil production house has officially announced a new project with the actor.
Industry buzz suggests that Ajith is demanding between Rs 140 crore and Rs 180 crore for his next film. Producers, however, are reportedly unwilling to offer more than Rs 110 crore to Rs 120 crore.
The wide gap between Ajith’s expectations and the producers’ offers is said to be one of the main reasons for the delay in finalising his next project.
Trade analysts also point out that although Ajith enjoys immense popularity in Tamil Nadu, his box-office market is largely limited to Tamil-speaking regions.
This makes it difficult for producers to justify such a high remuneration based only on theatrical revenue.
As a result, Ajith has not announced a new film for more than a year, leading to growing speculation among fans.
While several Telugu production houses are reportedly interested in working with him, remuneration negotiations are said to remain the biggest obstacle.
