Charleston auto body shop burned in early-morning fire; 1 firefighter injured

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A fire severely damaged a Charleston body shop Friday morning.

The Charleston Fire Department said they responded to a fire reported by a neighbor.

News crews on the scene have identified Yates Paint and Body Service Center as the site of a major early-morning fire.

Crews were called to the scene on the 1100 block of Forbes Avenue just before 4:30 a.m., according to Charleston Fire Department officials.

The building appears to have sustained serious damage inside and is visibly burned outside, as well.

Department officials say the fire was quickly extinguished; however, one firefighter was reported to have sustained “minor” injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

It is unclear what may have caused the fire. Investigators remained at the scene and were “reviewing the incident.”
