Opening up.
Bachelor Nation saw fan-favorite couple Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt fall in love and get engaged on Season 7 of “Bachelor in Paradise.” The couple tied the knot in 2023.
In July, Joe shared the news that they discovered an “early stage brain tumor” and he needed brain surgery.
Earlier last month, the Bachelor Nation star revealed the doctors were able to successfully remove the entire tumor during his surgery.
He has since been diagnosed with a very low-grade astrocytoma and revealed he will be on treatment for life. He has been keeping followers updated on his recovery journey since.
Joe previously opened up about a few difficulties he’s faced since having brain surgery. And now, he’s taken to social media to open up about five lifestyle changes he’s had to make over the past few weeks, post-op.
In a new video online, he shared, “It’s been four and a half weeks since my surgery. I wanted to make this video mainly because overall I’m doing wonderful. But has it all been great? No. There are things I struggle with. Number one is overstimulation.”
Joe went on to give examples of things that overstimulate him now, such as “scrolling too much on social media” and watching TV for too long. “I do get a little light-headed. I’ll have to go into my bedroom and turn the lights off,” he revealed.
The Bachelor Nation star listed that he’s also been hesitant to socialize with others. “I’m starting to get back into it. Next week there’s going to be a lot of people in New York. I’ve been on the more cautious side,” he stated.
Joe expanded more on the anxiety he’s been feeling since his diagnosis. He shared that anytime he reads something about the tumor he has, he’ll get sweaty hands and start to feel anxious. Joe also opened up about being an “overdoer.”
“I feel 100% at times and then I tend to overdo it,” he admitted. “I’m an overdoer. I’m struggling making this video is what I’m doing.” Joe then shared that his sleep schedule has changed since his surgery.
“I’m someone who’s always been able to operate off of very little sleep. I can’t do that anymore,” he revealed. “At least not right now. So I need — my sleep is really important. And I think that’s it, really. And you know, honorable mention is this is going to be with me the rest of my life but… that is a video for another time.”
People filled the comments with their love for Joe and his honesty, as well as continued support for his recovery.
We know Joe sharing his story will help so many others, and we’re wishing him all the best with his recovery. You’ve got this, Joe!
