Cameras are rolling again on Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. Additional filming began on Monday at Shepperton Studios, six months after principal photography wrapped.
A source close to the production told NarniaWeb this is “additional photography happening, not reshoots.” We also believe that the principal cast is not expected to participate, suggesting the shooting is not extensive. Production is expected to last no more than two weeks.
Additional filming is a normal part of the filmmaking process. Netflix’s Cliff Booth is planning a few more days of shooting ahead of its November release. Famously, The Lord of the Rings trilogy filmed for 14 months, but then returned for pickup shooting prior to each movie’s release. Significant reshoots, on the other hand, would mean throwing away footage that has already been shot and completely redoing scenes. Although Jeff Sneider recently reported that Narnia “hasn’t been testing as well as Netflix hoped,” all signs point to this additional filming being fairly minimal.
