Baftas red carpet: Wunmi Mosaku, Paul Mescal and Teyana Taylor among stars at film awards

Stars descended on London for this year’s Bafta Film Awards at the Royal Festival Hall, to celebrate the best of the big screen.

A host of famous names gathered for the UK film calendar’s most celebrated night; some of the women favoured ruffled dresses, while others opted for opulent colours and various textures including velvet and sequins.

While the majority of men wore tuxedos, the only bear – Paddington – turned up in his usual duffle coat and hat (which we hope had a marmalade sandwich stashed beneath it, in case he felt peckish).

Jessie Buckley, who won best actress for Hamnet, and Chloé Zhao, nominated for best director, appeared on the red carpet together in regal blue and gold dresses.

No stranger to award ceremonies, One Battle After Another’s star Leonardo DiCaprio, who was up for best actor, strolled onto the red carpet outside the venue.

Hamnet star Paul Mescal, who was a best supporting actor nominee, embraced his girlfriend, singer Gracie Abrams, before the ceremony, with many fans on social media saying they had made themselves “red carpet official” by appearing together.

Timothée Chalamet, who was up for best actor for Marty Supreme, attended the awards with his girlfriend, reality star and businesswoman Kylie Jenner.

Wunmi Mosaku, who won for best supporting actress for Sinners, opted for a striking blue layered dress, which shimmered on the red carpet.

Teyana Taylor, who was up for best supporting actress for One Battle After Another, is bang on trend with the colour of her silken ruffled dress, in a deep, rich brown. It also no doubt stopped her getting chilly on the red carpet.

I Swear star Robert Aramayo [R], who has also appeared in TV series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Game of Thrones, won for best actor and rising star. He is pictured with the inspiration for I Swear, Tourette’s syndrome campaigner John Davidson.

US actor Michael B Jordan, also famous for his roles in the Black Panther films and Creed, was up for best actor for his role as twins in Sinners.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were all smiles for the awards ceremony. Prince William has been president of Bafta since 2010.

Paddington politely greeted photographers on his way in, dressed for the weather in his hallmark bright blue coat and red hat.

Chase Infiniti, who plays Leonardo DiCaprio’s daughter in One Battle After Another, was photographed with him backstage; she wore a sculpted, deep crimson dress which flared out beautifully at the bottom. Infiniti was up for two awards, best actress and rising star.

Bugonia star Emma Stone, nominated for best actress, wore a minimal, long black dress with thin halterneck straps.

Jesse Plemons, who recently appeared in TV series Black Mirror, was up for best actor for Bugonia. He attended the awards with his wife, actress Kirsten Dunst, who wore a bold silk jacket.

Cillian Murphy starred in Steve, which was up for outstanding British film. The Oppenheimer star is also leading the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man.

Prolific author Maggie O’Farrell, who wrote Hamnet, wore a feather (or perhaps a writer’s quill) on top of her head, while her striking gold boots contrasted with her red outfit.

Alan Cumming was the host with the most, certainly when it came to hair embellishments and his sparkling brooch. The US Traitors host and actor was clearly delighted to showcase his sartorial style on the red carpet.

Audrey Nuna, one of the singers of Golden, from KPop Demon Hunters girlband Huntr/X, wore a distinctive red, white and blue ruffled outfit with a dog emblem. She later performed during the show.

Song Sung Blue star and best actress nominee Kate Hudson went for a classic, long red silk dress.

Rose Byrne, nominated for best actress for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, wore a long cream and silver dress with a ruffled hemline.

Marty Supreme’s Odessa A’zion, up for best supporting actress, wore a long, black lace off-the-shoulder dress.

Hamnet’s Noah Jupe and Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, who are starring next month in Romeo and Juliet on the London stage, were at the ceremony together.

Adolescence star Erin Doherty was also at this year’s ceremony. Known for her cutting-edge red-carpet fashion choices, she wore a dark, silken folded dress with large ruffles in the skirt.

White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood, who was nominated for a Bafta rising star award in 2023, attended the awards.

Carey Mulligan, up for best supporting actress for The Ballad of Wallis Island, opted for a simple, deep blue silk dress.
