A luxurious Perth hotel has been recognised on the global stage — but not for its impeccable service or suite of amenities.
Based in the CBD, Hotel Murder Mystery is an escape room experience set in 1920s Paris that has drawn 10,000 players since opening in 2025.
Crafted by locally founded company Escape This, this Parisian-themed “whodunit” claimed first place in the Escape Rooms and Puzzle Experiences category at the Global 2026 Immersive Experience Awards.
In the one-of-a-kind space, players conduct an investigation into the death of a hotel guest — seeking to identify a murder weapon and the identity of the true killer.
The room — inspired by an era of mystery marked by Hercule Poirot and the Orient Express — is said to be almost fully booked each week.
To begin, players pick up a telephone to gain a lead from a witness, though their account is soon challenged by contradictory clues.
Escape This founder Bernie Janes believes Hotel Murder Mystery’s charm lies in its cinematic presentation.
“It’s the feeling of stepping onto a movie set where you’ve suddenly been handed the starring role,” he said.
“We’re here to challenge what people think an escape room is and what it can be.”
Other winners at the global awards include Guinness Open Gate Experience in London, Studio KLV in Germany, and Dem Museums in Turkey.
Hotel Murder Mystery’s luxurious interiors and mystique have even induced a marriage proposal.
The immersive investigation carries a difficulty rating of seven out of 10, allowing players 60 mins to unmask the murderer.
Founded in Perth in 2020, Escape This has become the Southern Hemisphere’s largest escape room operator, boasting a handful of venues spread across Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.
