Fans of “Gossip Girl” probably know the name Abigail Lorick, and anyone who only casually watched the show probably knows her work.

The designer, who created main character Eleanor Waldorf’s New York-style wardrobe, has done a lot of different things since then. That includes being what her website calls an energetic guide to help people and brands “reconnect with your creative flow.”

Lorick is in Wichita this week to share some of that knowledge through a couple of classes.

She has a relative who is a Wichitan, and that person is friends with lawyer and Joy Lab Fitness & Social Club owner Camie Drumright, a latecomer to “Gossip Girl” but a fan nonetheless.

“People would watch it for the fashion just as much as they would for what the show was,” she said.

When she learned of Lorick’s Wichita connection and how her business has evolved, Drumright was interested in bringing her to her studio.

“She uses her skills and meditation and breathwork to help companies — kind of elevate them to the next level.”

Drumright’s business opened this spring, but she didn’t invite Lorick to come help her, necessarily, but her customers through one class on Wednesday and one on Thursday.

From 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Lorick will offer a class called Brain Health, Longevity and the Art of Aging Well. The idea is better known as Kirtan Kriya, Drumright said.

She said it’s about what to do to protect your brain, keep it active and continue to enjoy life. Lorick will teach some take-home techniques, too.

The class is $45, and Joy Lab Fitness members and nonmembers can come.

The Thursday class is a $65 evening workshop from 5 to 7 p.m. called The Inner Edit: Breathwork, Clarity and Alignment.

Drumright has asked Lorick to discuss what she does a bit. Then Lorick will guide participants in breathwork and help them realize what that offers and how it can affect their nervous systems.

Joy Lab Fitness offers memberships but also one-time options for guests to participate in a variety of classes, such as yoga, tai chi, cardio dance, Pilates, sound baths, barre classes and other wellness and social events that are focused on helping people regulate stress, build strength and mobility and find the joy in life wherever they are.

That’s why Drumright thought having Lorick visit would be a great fit.

“Oh, this is kind of intriguing,” she said she thought when she learned of the opportunity.

Drumright said this is why she started Joy Lab Fitness. She said she didn’t want a simple fitness business. Instead, she wanted to create a place for people to learn and experience new ideas, connections and joy.

Her studio is on 21st Street just north of 21st and Woodlawn in the same center as Magnolia Cafe.

“It’s just fun to offer our community something that isn’t an everyday occurrence,” Drumright said.

Not to mention, she added, “There’s a cult of people who are ‘Gossip Girl’ fans.”
