To think I was so excited to see When the Stars Gossip, a space rom-com with a refreshing plot and a talented ensemble. Despite the 1-2 per cent average ratings for the episodes, I sat through all 16 episodes — yes, I did — only to see Eve Kim (Gong Hyo Jin) destroy her flourishing career and die from childbirth, all because she slept with a man-child. Not only does Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho) survive to everyone’s chagrin, but the series ultimately is an expensive anti-abortion PSA — a cry for help against South Korea’s low birth rate in the recent decade.
