This summer has been all about shorts: shorts of Brobdingnagian proportions, teeny-tiny Daisy Dukes. While many have lived in the extremes, Jennifer Lawrence understands there’s sweet, sartorial relief in the modern classic: denim jorts.
The actor was photographed out and about in New York yesterday with her family: husband Cooke Moroney and their two young sons. Pushing her Babyzen stroller, Lawrence paired her raw hemmed, light blue denim jorts—which hit just above the knee—with an oversized vintage navy Playboy shirt, a black baseball cap, and black flip-flops.
It was, all in all, a textbook Jennifer Lawrence summer-in-the-city outfit: a light and louche silhouette, a playful graphic tee and cap, street-ready thongs. The slogan shirt especially looms large in Lawrence’s current summer capsule. Recently, she’s worn vintage Stevie Wonder and Beatles merch, a São Jorge Açores dolphin tee, and a JW Anderson shirt emblazoned with Sissy Spacek in Stephen King’s Carrie. Even if she’s not adding in a pair of jorts, she keeps bottoms super relaxed: tailored bermudas, silky slips. There’s always a sense of J-Law effortlessness.

But Lawrence knows the once divisive jorts are some of the most versatile bottoms one can have in the summer time: paired with schlubby tees or an elevated tank, flip-flops or thong heels.
