Johnny Depp has reportedly been the victim of a major financial fraud scheme, after his American Express card details were allegedly used for illegal transactions worth over £520,000.
According to reports, Hungarian police have arrested a 27-year-old man in Budapest during an operation conducted on May 6. In the released footage, armed officers wearing special equipment are seen entering the suspect’s apartment and handcuffing him.
Investigators suspect the young man had obtained the actor’s bank details through online purchases and bookings on internet platforms. The suspicious transactions are believed to have taken place between January 2024 and December 2025.
Authorities said the alert was raised by an American bank, which noticed unusual financial movements and notified the Hungarian branch of the FBI. After investigation, the trail led to a rented apartment in Budapest.
Although the arrested man denies the charges, the court has ordered his detention. Investigators are analyzing over 300 transactions, with a total value exceeding 536 thousand pounds.
The case has also brought into focus Depp’s stay in Hungary during the filming of the film “Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness”, a project that he directed himself and which starred Al Pacino and Stephen Graham.
Meanwhile, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star is expected to return to an American production for the first time since 2020, with the new film “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol”, where he will star alongside Daisy Ridley and Sam Claflin.
