SEATTLE — A new 5,500-capacity indoor music venue could open by 2029 in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood, Live Nation and Seattle’s First Avenue Entertainment announced Thursday.

The new venue is being planned at The Boxyard, across the street from T-Mobile Park. It is an addition to the existing Boxyard development, which includes Hatback Bar & Grill and Steelheads Alley, and will be integrated with Victory Hall.

According to the two groups, the venue is designed to “support artists at a key stage in their careers – between theaters and arenas – with a purpose-built environment tailored to the needs of modern touring productions.”

The venue will also host other live events throughout the year.

The venue is expected to generate about $70 million a year, according to an analysis presented to Live Nation and First Avenue Entertainment. It’s estimated the venue will create at least 700 new jobs.

The two groups say they will engage with neighborhood groups, other businesses and city leaders as plans progress.

“It’s exciting to see new energy and investment in Seattle’s live music and entertainment scene,” said Joe Nguyen, president and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce in a prepared statement. “This venue creates another important space for artists and audiences while bringing more people, more economic activity, and more support for nearby businesses. It’s also a reminder that Seattle can grow and evolve in ways that strengthen our iconic entertainment districts while respecting the working waterfront and industrial lands that are still such a critical part of our economy and identity.”
